Code of Conduct
As a practising doula in Queensland, my work falls under the National Code of Conduct for Health Care Workers.
Although my role is not clinical, I am legally bound by this Code, which sets out the minimum standards of practice for all health and wellbeing professionals in Queensland.
My role as a doula is non-clinical. I provide social, emotional, informational, and practical support to women and families during pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period.
It’s important to know what I don’t do:
I do not provide medical care.
I do not perform physical examinations or clinical assessments.
I do not give medical advice or prescribe treatment.
I do not make decisions on your behalf or speak for you in discussions with health professionals.
While I may share general information or perspectives about maternity-care practices, I do not provide clinical opinions about the medical appropriateness of specific treatments or procedures.
I do not handle or administer medication or medical equipment.
I can support you to:
Ask questions and understand your options.
Access high-quality, evidence-based information about your options so that you can make informed decisions about your own care.
Communicate your preferences with your care team, particularly those documented in your birth or postpartum plan.
Feel emotionally supported and respected throughout your journey.
My commitment is to work within my scope of practice, with professionalism, integrity, and respect for your autonomy and safety, in alignment with the National Code of Conduct for Health Care Workers (Queensland).
